Oral Interview Board

I’m serving this year on the Oral Interview Board where we interview candidates for the next academy. While it has been a little tedious, 10 hours a day five days a week, it has been very interesting. Most of the candidates are squared away, but there have been some interesting ones as well. We even had one poor kid just flat out faint he was so nervous! Had to call EMS and everything. I felt bad for him because he was so embarrassed. We offered to reschedule the remainder of his interview but he cowboyed-up and finished it. We all voted to hire him but it was pretty funny!

I am working on Ashlyn’s (niece) Shepherd’s Bush Christmas stocking but it is coming slowly. With the Police Motorcycle Rodeo all last week and oral interviews these two weeks and my normal extra duty and overtime, I’m lucky to get Sundays off and just have had to catch up on stuff at home rather than stitch. Hopefully I will have it finished in time to get it finished into a stocking so they will be able to hang it for a couple of weeks during the holidays.

Work on the house is coming along. The tile floors are due to be installed on Halloween day, the tile counters next week, and then the painter will finish it up. My new roof came out beautiful and I am very happy with it (just not with the house insurance!).

Otherwise it is business as usual…work, work, work, work, sleep, work, work, work, work, sleep…..

Checking in…

Wow, I didn’t realize it had been so long since I had posted on my blog! I guess a lot has been going on, especially during Hurricane Gustav. I had roof damage and my fence caved in a few places, but all in all I came out okay. I just got the new roof on last week and it is beautiful! I upgraded to the architectural shingles and it just looks like a different house. Since I had to make a withdrawal from my deferred comp fund for the deductible, I got the max (you can only do it once) and am doing a few things in the house I’ve been needing to do.

I put down a wood laminate floor in the master bedroom with the help of a friend. I’ll never pay anyone to do that again! It was easy and it came out really nice. I did the shoe moulding by myself and it was the first time I had ever done that, too. It came out great and again, I’ll never pay anyone to do that again either! I refinished the shower in the master bath, got some new faucets and light fixtures, and I’m laying tile in both baths and the hall. I may lay the tile myself with the help of some friends that have done it before. It depends on how long it will take my handyman to get to it. I’m paying him to paint the master bed and bath, the hall, and the kitchen. I’m also having tile countertops installed in the kitchen as well. These are things I have been wanting to do for a long time but haven’t had the money or time. I’ve done a lot of work myself so I have saved money by building “sweat equity” (yes I watch that show all the time on DIY)!

Other than that things are plugging along as usual. The motorcycle rodeo starts tomorrow morning so I will be there all week doing all of the registration and computer work. It’s a great time and we raise lots of money for Dream Day, the Louisiana branch of St. Jude’s Hospital.

On the stitching front, I haven’t been doing anything past what I have to. I finished the round robin today and started on Ashlyn’s Christmas stocking. I need to finish it by the end of the month so I can ship it off to have it finished and then mail it to them so they can hang it this year with the others.
